Kris Mattila

Dr. Kris Mattila is the Director of the Center for Service Systems Engineering.  He is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering with a specialization in Construction Engineering and is currently serving as the Associate Dean for Academic Programs. He has extensive industrial experience and training in safety and OSHA regulations. He also has expertise in estimating and scheduling. He is responsible for curriculum development and course design for construction-related courses and programs within the department. His research has been in the areas of planning and scheduling.

Leonard Bohmann

Dr. Leonard Bohmann serves as the PI on the NSF funded project "Implementing a Curriculum for Service Systems Engineering". He is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems. He served as the director of undergraduate education for electrical engineering at Michigan Tech and was instrumental in the development of a Computer Engineering program in 2000. He also served as the department's curriculum coordinator during Michigan Tech's recent conversion to semesters from quarters. Utilities are a major component of the service sector and Dr. Bohmann's expertise in Power Systems will be invaluable in defining related courses in the new curriculum. Further, computer services are a significant component of the service sector industries and Dr. Bohmann's leadership in this area will prove invaluable as we design our new curriculum.

Dana Johnson

Dr. Dana Johnson is an Associate Professor, Operations Management, School of Business and Economics. Dr. Johnson's interdisciplinary background is in industrial engineering and business administration, with focus on operations managements, cost accounting, and organizational behavior, along with her 15 years of industry experience, will contribute to the success of the new program. Her understanding of the integration of business and engineering is key to the launch of this initiative. She holds a BS and Masters in Business Administration, MS in Manufacturing Engineering, MS in Industrial Technology, PhD in Industrial Engineering, two professional accounting certifications, and three professional quality engineering / management certifications.

Nilufer Onder

Dr. Nilufer Onder received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees both in Computer Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey. After getting her B.Sc. she worked at the Computer Center of METU as a Systems Programmer. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1999. At the same year she began her current position at Michigan Tech where she is now an Associate Professor of Computer Science.

John Sutherland

Dr. John W. Sutherland received his BS and MS degrees in industrial engineering and his PhD in mechanical engineering. He has taught courses in quality control, design of experiments, production planning, concurrent engineering, life-cycle engineering, and environmentally responsible design and manufacturing. His research efforts have included the development of software tools for manufacturing decision-making and environmental greening of products, processes, and systems. Dr. Sutherland serves as the "expert" on industrial engineering content and how it relates to the Service Systems Engineering curriculum.

Sheryl Sorby

Dr. Sheryl A. Sorby, is on leave from Michigan Tech, serving as a program manger at the National Scince Foundation's Directorate of Undergraduate Education.  Previosuly she was the  Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Engineering at Michigan Tech Dr. Sorby was a leader in the restructuring of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program at Michigan Tech in 2000. This work was supported by a Collaboratives for Excellence in Teacher Preparation grant for which she served as project PI and resulted in a means for students to receive teacher certification along with their engineering studies. In her role as Associate Dean, Dr. Sorby is charged with developing and assessing undergraduate engineering programs at Michigan Tech.
